Taking up arms .....chap. 4
The bible speaks of "taking up arms in both the old and the New Testament.    The Youngs take a common sense approach to, "Teaching the taking up of arms as part of rearing ".  I agree that guns are not a problem as much as lack of instruction of those handling  guns.   Identifying this area of rearing could be very value as you never know what the future holds and anything taught to children as they grow instills confidence and a responsible attitude.   This is an area we never discussed as parents.  I would agree that fathers are the best people to teach taking up arms.

  1. Having a dad who hunts had given me more experience with arms than Adam when we first started dating. My dad taught me how to shoot a bow, but he never took it the next step to show me how to shoot a gun - I wish he had. I honestly think that everyone should know how to shoot a gun, at the very least for self defense purposes. That being said, I don't think everyone needs to own one. "The problem, you see, is not guns themselves; the problem is the people wielding them."

I completely agree with the authors that our sons, and really everyone, should be taught to respect the power of weapons and handle them properly. I like the idea of using the rule of never pointing a gun anywhere you don't intend to shoot - even for toy guns - "watch where you're pointing that thing"

I have a serious concern regarding violent video games. I do not intend to allow them in my home.
